Modular, Cobalt-free, Safe & Sustainable: Lithium battery system "Knut”

"One Fits All" with no ifs, ands or buts

The aim of "Knut" was the development of a modular battery system with a very wide range of applications. As the system is also used in the marine sector, the requirements for safety and environmental compatibility were an important criterion.

For safety reasons and due to the public debate about the precarious conditions in cobalt mining with regard to child labour and working conditions, the decision was made to use the latest cobalt-free cell technology.

Safe and durable

By selecting the cell technology and combining it with the battery monitoring unit, the characteristics of the cell and the overall system result in a battery system that guarantees safe operation in practice. Extreme heat development, fire and explosion can almost be ruled out.

Sustainability guaranteed

The modular battery system is designed in such a way that it can be used as a Second Life application in stationary applications after use in the mobile area. This extends the service life of the system and thus reduces the ecological footprint.

At the end of Second Life use, the system can be recycled. Even during the design of the system, attention was paid to easy dismantling in order to ensure efficient, pure raw material recovery as easily as possible.

E-bikes in special design

Pioneer in micromobility

Design, distribution, brand: for more than three years we were successful in the field of regionally produced pedelecs and e-bikes.
The idea of designing modular battery systems of the highest quality for specific requirements also arose from this field of activity of micromobility. With high-quality components selected for performance, safety and reliability.

For a manufacturer of exclusive e-bikes we developed an extraordinary E-MTB Fully with 160mm suspension travel, which provides for battery integration into the down tube. The target customer group for the e-mountain bike is trail and endurance mountain bikers.

Thoughts on construction

The frame of the bike was defined in the geometry estimate and converted into a 3D model in CAD. The 3D model was then realised as a 3D print to check the accuracy of fit of the battery and motor as well as the add-on parts. On the basis of the test, a release for the production of the carbon mould could then be realised. The result is a unique, robust bike made from outstanding components that quickly became popular.
